The North Carolina Zoo
In November 2007, Carolina Solar Energy LLC (CSE) built and is now operating a 104 KWdc PV solar generation project at the North Carolina Zoological Park in Asheboro NC. The solar installation is the roof of the Zoo’s new Picnic Pavilions next to the North American entrance.
The project consists of 612 Suntech high-efficiency 170 Watt PV panels mounted on top of the three 40’ by 80’ metal roofs for a total of 9,600 square feet. The solar electricity is sold to Randolph Electric Membership Cooperative and the renewable energy certificates (RECs) is sold to NC GreenPower under a 5-year contract.
